Clinical Massage Therapy
QEII Clinical Massage Therapy has been operating since 1996.
We are passionate about our profession and believe it is something more people should experience as a way to improve their health and general wellbeing.
Therapeutic massage is a “hands-on” therapy which manipulates the soft tissues of the body and can be used to address many specific soft tissue injuries and dysfunctions and for relaxation and stress management.
Skilfully applied massage is a very effective means of influencing the structures and functions of the body.
Depending on the type and manner of massage, relief of tension, stiffness and pain and a profound sense of relaxation may follow a session.
Massage encourages nutrition and development of the muscular system by stimulating its circulation, nerve supply, and cellular activity.
Massage has a positive effect on the flexibility of joints which have limited movement due to tissue injury, inflammation, or muscle strain.
The following pages will familiarise you with some of the different massage techniques practised by our staff and explain their benefits to you.
Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique with a focus on the deeper layers of muscle tissue.
Slow strokes and deep pressure release chronic stress and tension in the body.
Benefits:
Based on the extensive works of Dr Janet Travell and Dr David Simons trigger point therapy involves a systematic de-activation of trigger points.
Trigger points are located in tight bands in the soft tissues and refer pain. The trigger points are commonly de-activated by flat or pincer compression wile the muscle is on a part stretch.
The treatment may be followed by stretches with ice then heat and then movement.
Trigger point work is a part of Neuromuscular Therapy and is beneficial wherever chronic aching pain is felt.
Benefits:
Neuromuscular Therapy is a specific approach for treatment of chronic and acute pain.
Advanced massage techniques are used to treat muscle dysfunction and postural imbalances.
Benefits:
Sports massage is used by top professional athletes throughout the world together with anyone passionate about their sports and pursuits.
Designed to prepare athletes for an upcoming event, aid recovery after a vigorous workout or competition, maximise training gains and achieve peak performance and improve personal bests. This is achieved through specialised medium to deep massage techniques which stimulate circulation of blood and lymph.
Sports massage can help prevent niggling injuries that often hinder performance and achievement, whether a person is a top athlete or a casual jogger.
Benefits:
Enhances athletic abilities and endurance
Reduces likelihood of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)
Myofascial Release (MFR) is the three dimensional application of sustained pressure and movement into the fascial system in order to break down restrictions.
This treatment approach focuses on the fascial system, which is a network of connective tissue that holds the body together.
When there is a restriction in this network, reduced flexibility, pain, impaired circulation and loss of endurance can result. MFR is applied by use of light traction in the area of pain or restriction.
Benefits:
Swedish massage is a luxurious therapeutic massage, excellent for stress reduction and total relaxation. Known as the one hour holiday.
Bring in your sore, aching, tired and tense body and leave feeling relaxed, soothed and balanced.
Benefits:
Pregnancy is a time to be pampered.
A therapist trained to perform pregnancy massage understands the changes occurring in the body throughout pregnancy.
Massage during pregnancy can promote increased circulation, thereby bringing fresh nutrients and removing wastes. You may achieve greater energy and less fatigue.
Pre-labour massage helps sedate the nervous system, release endorphins which are natural pain killers and so lead to a state of deep relaxation
